Detailed General Benefits of BANT Membership
BANT is a professional body. We provide an extensive Code of Ethics and Practice as guidance and requirements for practitioners in order to ensure they meet the demands of the NOS and are safe and legal in practice. It is against this Code that any enquiry or complaint would be compared. If BANT is unable to resolve a dispute then the CNHC would be likely to take up the case.
BANT continues to monitor the development of the nutrition industry and intervene on your behalf wherever appropriate or when we feel members' activities may be affected. It is often the case that members are unaware of the behind the scenes, politically sensitive work, BANT does. BANT will always notify members of any changes and development in the industry as and when we can.
BANT has a dedicated Ethics Committee and upon receiving written notification of a complaint about a practitioner the Ethics Committee will endeavour to resolve the dispute as quickly as possible. It will be the Ethics Committee that acts as the interface between client and practitioner thus providing a barrier between the parties and reducing the stress that accompanies such investigations.
BANT fully supports the recommendation that all nutrition professionals involved in providing advice to the public should come under the strictest regulation.
BANT is recognised as a professional body for Nutritional Therapy by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). The CNHC has been developed with the help of complementary healthcare practitioners and with support from the Prince's Foundation for Integrated Health. The Department of Health has consistently supported the CNHC throughout its start-up period and is committed to establishing the CNHC as the national voluntary regulator in the complementary healthcare field.
BANT is a recognised member of the nutrition industry and, as such, is often requested to comment on consultation documents issued by the Government, the EU and from within the industry.
The BANT CPD committee regularly vet a wide range of professional seminars ensuring they fit the BANT CPD requirements. These seminars are then listed on the CPD and Conference web page which is only available to BANT members.
BANT continues to establish regional groups for support and direction for all BANT members. The BANT PR Committee is always happy to visit such groups to clarify our professional role in the industry and inform members of current issues being addressed.
BANT continues to pursue interface between the three major nutrition professions in order to establish our rightful position in the industry and retain NT practitioners' rights to practice autonomously.
BANT continues to support practitioners through a dedicated enquiry system via email or telephone.
BANT recognises that members may have additional disciplines requiring differing levels of insurance and therefore recommends a range of insurance companies for practitioners to adapt their own insurance to suit their individual needs. This way BANT is able to keep membership costs at a minimum.
BANT has not increased its membership fees for more than 6 years.
BANT Council and all of the Committees who undertake work for BANT work on a voluntary basis, thereby ensuring that membership fees can be utilised to further the needs of the profession.
