ROLE OF THE MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

Setting the membership criteria and levels of membership

Looking at the Fellow level of membership in 2011

Designing and implementing the Online Learning Zone for CPD modules

Designing and implementing the Online CPD logging system

Recommending any changes in fee structure

Establishing reciprocal links with international professional associations and training providers

ROLE OF THE CHAIR OF THE MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

Oversees and co-ordinates the projects/functions listed above

Holds position for the minimum of 1 year and maximum of 3 years

Keeps an up to date contact list and sends a copy to the administrator

Finds and trains a replacement before standing down

Arranges meetings 4 times per year

Arranges for minutes to be taken at each meeting

Holds a register for meeting attendance of committee members

Is the main point of contact for the committee

Presents a summary of the year's activities at the AGM

Sends a committee member to present an interim report at BANT council meetings

Updates and adds to the policies and documents that form the duties and goals of the committee

Monitors support provided by the committee members and reports to council at the end of September each year

Submits a register of attendance and hard copy of all the minutes of meetings that took place throughout the year to the administrator, at the end of September each year

COMMITTEE STRUCTURE

1 voluntary Chair selected from Committee Membership or Council, reselected after 1-3 years

5 voluntary BANT Members reselected after 1-3 years

The Chair is selected from the committee members, approved by the BANT Council and reports to the Council on all matters regarding the Membership Committee

COMMITTEE MEETINGS AND RECORDS

The Committee meets quarterly with a quorum consisting of the Chair plus 3 committee members

The Committee keeps confidential written records of all discussions, meetings, and decisions

Miguel Toribio-Mateas

Chair of Membership Committee and Council Member
  • Completed his first degree in Business and Languages in Spain, UK and France in 1995, moving to London then to study a MSc in International Business
  • Later studied Environmental Science at postgraduate level, whilst training with the British Wheel of Yoga for 3 years to become qualified teacher/practitioner and pursuing other interest in complementary and alternative medicine.
  • Graduated with a BSc Honours in Nutritional Medicine from Thames Valley University, and is currently completing his studies at The Functional Medicine University
  • His professional background is in Information Management, with 12 years of work experience in some of the best known names in premium Online Research and Learning platforms in Project, Product, Customer Relationship Management and Training roles, and with over 7 years specialisation training for the Medical and Scientific Research industry.
  • Miguel is an Academic Tutor at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition, where he is leading a research project on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and mitochondrial integrity
  • He combines his academic role with consultancy services to the Nutritional Therapy industry, 2 busy London practices, European nutrition retreats and a freelance training and research consultancy for a top global scientific literature publisher
  • Clinical specialist areas include Functional and Integrative approaches to Nutritional Therapy, metabolic imbalances and mental health, always considering the individual as a complex set of relationships amongst body, mind and spirit

  • Completed a four-year BSc in Nutritional Medicine at Thames Valley University
  • Member of Institute for Functional Medicine and has successfully completed the Functional Diagnostic Medicine Practitioner programme from Functional Medicine University (USA)
  • Started her MSc in Nutritional Therapy at CNELM in January 2011
  • Has a clinic in Notting Hill where she sees clients with a wide range of health issues, areas of specialism are improving digestive health, immune function, energy levels and detoxification systems
  • Is involved with a number of programmes with integrated solutions to health. This includes work at the London clinics and two retreat companies, Jiva Healing and Littleton Mill
  • Previously held a consultative role at Nutrition Geeks, where her remit included clinician education and communication in functional laboratory testing
  • Has contributed to articles in the consumer and trade media including in Health & Fitness Magazine, Condé Nast and CAM magazine
  • Before training in Nutrition and Functional Medicine, she had a successful career in the Advertising and Marketing Industry

  • Provides regular corporate workshops and consultations
  • Works closely with local GPs, endocrinologists and oncologists
  • Has written a number of health articles & gives regular local radio interviews
